A closer view of towel three of nine. One of the warps broke part way through towel three but the fix was easy peasy as @janestaffordtextiles would say! I’m so glad I’ve been watching her videos as I’ve learned so much! This little heart is the wee bit left over from the fix. Shaping the yarn like this has me thinking about hand stitching a heart on each towel. Yesterday I worked on towel number two during the @daedalusspinningwheels zoom spin in and finished it up later than evening. Worked on towel three today and only have 7 more inches to go. I was inspired by @doodler01 and @jillianmoreno to show my behind the scenes! While I don’t do any live classes I do quite a bit of zoom spin ins and of course a ton of photo shoots for myself as well as for @fiberygoodness. This is my main working area. I mostly use it for my photo shoots using a @paulcbuffinc #einstein640 strobe. I got a notification today that 6 years ago today is when my Einstein Strobe arrived. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been using it for 6 years! All of the beautiful photos I post here are shot right here using this strobe. I also set up my iPad on the surface for my weekly zoom spin ins. For anyone wondering what I’ve got my backdrop on it’s a futon with some wood supported on top it if you provide a flat surface. The backdrops are hung off the wall on a 3d printed wall mount I designed and printed. It’s getting time for me to change up my backgrounds. (Excluding the ones that are part of TdF trophies) It’s been amazing seeing these spindles develop over the years. They are incredible spindles in so many ways. They are so colorful and fun looking, the modular nature allows them to be adjusted to suit the spinner, and they have such wonderful spins. Shortly after the announcement of the Lotus whorls the rest of the @akerworks Modular Spindle Line up was revamped to also be hubless. Atm I have a Hubless Medium Trillium and Medium Geranium. The first hubless trillium was spotted in September 12th 2018. That Small Lotus in the bottom right is a special one that hasn’t been released officially just yet. In April of 2019 @crafting.karia had asked about the possibility of smaller shafts which could affect spin. We tested out the theory by using electric tape and a Small Lotus whorl. The preliminary tests were incredible. It produced a fast spin time that was longer than my arms could reach up while standing. @akerworks pleased with the early tests sent us each a special Small Lotus for the Mini Spindle shaft. It’s hands down my favorite of all the Akerworks spindles in terms of how it spins. The Mini Spindles gave way to the development of the Lotus Modular Spindle. The yellow medium was my first one and I could not stop spinning with it. The way it shimmered in the sun as I spun was just a constant ray of sunshine. The Lotus whorls became the first hubless Modular spindles. They were announced on July 11th 2018. Mini Spindles!!!! These adorable little spindles were first posted up on December 1st 2015! Initially @akerworks thought they were just cutesy and would not really be a heavily used spindle. Through the development of these minis came the Lotus whorl into the spindle line up. This was also the first time Adan used BBs in spindles for rim weighting. Despite their small stature the community proved these were wonderful little work horses perfectly capable of spinning big projects! Due to the nature of how small these Minis are this also introduced the hubless concept that would be later introduced to the main modular spindle line up. On July 14th 2015 @akerworks announced a new whorl type the Geranium. After thorough testing Adan developed three sizes for the Trillium to become the first set of spindles in the Modular Adjustable Spindle System. The large size was made slightly larger than the original Trillium and the others went down in radius by 1/2 an inch. Facebook reminded me that on November 29th 2014 I received the first @akerworks modular spindle prototypes. They went out to a small group of testers. Little did we know how far this journey into spindles would take Adan. The one many of you will immediately recognize is the Trillium. This would become the very first spindle style to be fully developed. The Trillium holds a special place in the hearts of the @akerworks team. Adan’s mother owned a Bed and Breakfast Inn that had a very memorable patch of Trillium flowers.
