I started up a small project to create khaitu(Andean weaving yarn) on my lighter Peruvian spindles I got from @abbysyarns. This fiber is originally something I ordered from @weavingworks for a different project but I've got plenty to spare some for weaving. This project is something I'll work on a few minutes here and there to learn how to use these spindles and to hopefully have khaitu that will lend itself well to creating these beaded bands that I'll be braiding into my hair. To see a closer look at these bands check out my prior posts. I picked out a few different seed beads to try working with through @artbeads. Background textile woven by Urbana Turpo Ccori of Sallac and the spindle bag was woven by Susana Inquillay Apaza from Sallac. Purchased through @centro_textiles_cusco and @abbysyarns. #abbysyarns #franquemontuniversity #andeanweaving #khaitu #spintoweave #andeanbackstrap #backstrapweaving #weaversofinstagram #handweaving #weavingyarns #igweavers #handwoventextiles #weaversgonnaweave

I'm saying farewell to my foster Starling, Blue. She's heading back to Daedalus HQ and then she'll be heading to her brand new forever home. This wheel has been incredible. I didn't get to use it as much as Rosie but the time I did spend with it was such an absolute joy. Wishing Blue's new owner happy spinning. ๐Ÿ’™ The next Starling I'm fostering is a Silver/Teal V3FP that's featured in the new manual. So far we've done some plying with the Sparrow Migration Community bobbins. I'm absolutely loving all the new updates. #igspinnersinspiration #wemakeyarn #spinnersoftheworld #spinnersofinstagram #handspunwool #handspinnersofig #yarnspinnersofinstagram #electricspinningwheel #daedalusspinningwheels #daedalusstarling

Late last night I decided to attempt to braid the Huacatinco Wantanas into my hair. I'm not sure how it's done traditionally so I took my best guess on how to make it work. I used a lark head knot to secure the center of the band to the start of the braid. I love the way the bands pop in and out of the braid and the white beads are a lot of fun. I want to learn how to make this style of band so that I can make some longer ones that will be a more appropriate length for my hair. I'll need to make them about 2 feet longer than the shorter one of the two. When longer I'll be able to tie the bottom to secure the braids rather than using an elastic tie. Close up photos of these bands are found in the previous post. Huacatinco Wantans purchased through @abbysyarns. Last week a bundle of bands arrived from @abbysyarns that I'll be using as study references. These particular ones are Huacatinco Wantanas which I'll be using to braid into my hair. They are extremely finely spun and are woven in the Tanka Ch'oro pattern with white beads accenting the edges. The background is a blanket woven by Martha Quispe Turpo and Asunta Quispe Espinoza from Santa Cruze de Sallac.
