My parents instilled in me a passion for all creatures big and small from a very young age. Being outside looking for buggies and other cool critters was something I always enjoyed doing. I loved going camping, hiking, and spending all day at the zoo. My favorite channel to watch on TV when I was little was Animal Planet and my childhood hero was Steve Irwin. I admired his compassion for all creatures no matter how big, small, fierce, or cuddly. He made me wish that I could grow up and do something awesome like he did. While everyone here knows that I love fiber arts, my number one passion is wildlife photography. Being out in nature or places with lots of animals soothes my soul. As soon as I heard that @robertirwinphotography had a photography book I had to buy it. It brings me so much joy to see Steve's children taking up the mantle in their own ways. This book is absolutely amazing and such a great addition to my favorite wildlife photography books. Each of the books displayed here means so much to me. I adore spindles so much but it wasn't always that way! After I got my first spinning wheel I stopped spindle spinning as I didn't see a point to it anymore. It wasn't until I acquired my first @jenkinsspindles that I fell back in love with spindles and ever since then my spindle collection has grown and grown. I currently have 11 spindle works in progress and a variety of sample spinning. I've been busy working on spinning WIPs but needed a wee bit of a break. I'm currently spinning up some delightful CVM destined for a special project. Andean spinning spindles are called Pushkas and the spindles shown here with the darker whorls are a specific type called Chaj Chaj which is the sound the captive ring makes while spinning. Contemplating my first flock spin for supported spindles. This was all instigated by the Bog Oak spindle from @spanish_peacock second spindle from the left. The Bog Oak is from Ukraine and I thought it would be nice to spin something blue and yellow to honor where it came from. I can't believe summer is over and we are now into fall. It's a bit bittersweet but I'm looking forward to some fall and Halloween festivities. Two of my favorite dyers made some personal seasonal colorways. @fossilfibers made adorable spin to knit pumpkin kits along with a gradient set that was inspired by a cute photo of little pumpkins. I may have talked @longdrawjames into creating a fall leaf colorway which I'll be spinning to knit into a fall weather Cameo shawl. A special delivery arrived from my dear friends @longdrawjames and @daedalusspinningwheels. In it contained all the best dyed fiber and a few other super special presents. Several of the braids of fiber were dyed in one of my all time favorite colorways Wrong Frog. This colorway was created through a frog species I suggested to James but we got our wires crossed and he dyed it after another frog that is within a similar color palette. I recently discovered nail stamping... haven't tried it yet but when I saw this frog plate from @hellomaniology I had to get it along with a few froggie colors from @orly. Just a little bit ago I saw our mailman pulling into the driveway and told Linhart well looks like there is a package for you as I wasn't expecting anything. OH MY SQUEE!!!! New spindles!!!! The first one is my very first spindle made by @brewergnome. While on a zoom with @longdrawjames he asked if I had seen the latest spindle that Dan was working on that featured opal inlaid geckos. I immediately had to go hunt the post down and then reach out to Dan to see if anyone had called dibs on it yet. It's such a beautiful spindle. I'm so impressed with the inlay work, especially with these tiny little gecko toes! I've been spinning some Merino/Silk 50/50 by Judith MacKenzie on it, so lovely to spin. The second spindle is one from @spanish_peacock. The teal dymalux shaft really caught my eye and pairs so beautifully with the Holly whorl. TdF Finale! I got a lot more accomplished for this year's TdF than anticipated. I had a blast spinning @fossilfibers's TdF Gradient on Dandillion the Starling V3FP. I finished the first braid and I'm about halfway through the second braid. I'm loving the way this gradient was set up and looking forward to seeing what they do next year. I always look forward to spinning up @threewatersfarm's TdF braids. I finished Just Riding Along and I'm about 1/3 through the Along the Water Braid on my Magpie V2. This year I added something new to my daily spinning. The Sunflower Fields spin by @fossilfibers on my @akerworks Mixy spindle is my mailbox spin. My driveway is about 300ft long so each day I walk down at least once a day and spin all the way down and back. This is something I'll continue to do and will be a great way to get some spindle spinning done. I finished up two of my advent spins on my Jenkins one from @hipstrings and the other from @inglenookfibers both from 2019. With these two finished it marks the halfway point of both advents. I also added two new wonderful Jenkins a Wren and Gooney both out of Spalted Madrone. It's been so nice getting to know these two spindles during TdF. SQUEEE a wonderful package arrived from @jenkinsspindles. Two new spindles arrived from Ed Jenkins! His spindles hold such a special place in my heart. The left is a Spalted Madrone Wren that only weighs 10.85 grams! It's so incredibly light and has such a lovely spin. The right is a Spalted Madrone Gooney which is a brand new style. It looks similar in profile to the Roadrunner which is flat size up but has a slightly longer arm and longer shaft. It's 17.37 grams and has an amazing spin. SQUEE!!!! This spindle from @spanish_peacock is incredibly special. It has made a long long journey from where it was originally from in Chernivtsi Ukraine. This wood journeyed across the border over to Poland to be shipped since the Ukraine post was unable to operate. This particular wood is over 2,000 years old! The spin on this spindle is absolutely brilliant! It pairs so beautifully with blue and yellow! 💙 🇺🇦 💛 Braids are Sunny Day and Riveting Blue by @threewatersfarm.
