Spring is definitely here and with it we are getting some warmer temps. Our upstairs is hitting 75F which is 7 degrees higher than what we usually have our temp at. While we don't have the air conditioner running yet I do have my MAGPIE! This birdie generates a lovely breeze that will help keep me cool. I've started up Petal Peddlers on Polarth/Silk dyed by @threewatersfarm, a very fitting colorway for spring. The prior layer is the last of the Green Gallery colorway also by TWF. Background textile was woven by Urbana Turpo Ccori of Sallac. Purchased through @centro_textiles_cusco. #threewatersfarm #igspinnersinspiration #wemakeyarn #spinnersoftheworld #igspinners #handspunyarn #handspinnersofig #yarnspinnersofinstagram #espinnersofinstagram #daedalusspinningwheels #daedalusmagpie

Last week Tuesday I finished the spinning for my first khaitu(Andean weaving yarn) project. I'm taking all the steps that would be taken traditionally so the next steps in this project is to wind 2 ply plying balls, wind figure 8 skeins, wash the skeins of singles, wind back into balls, and then ply on a Kanti. I'm currently plying so stay tuned for more photos of the process coming soon. I learned how to spin on these spindles along with all the other techniques described above from @abbysyarns and Nilda Callanaupa Alvarez of @centro_textiles_cusco. I am so thankful for everything they do to help promote the learning and continuation of these beautiful textile traditions! Background textile was woven by Urbana Turpo Ccori of Sallac. It's been a month since I started this project and still have quite a bit left to spin. I'm spinning about 16 grams of each color which should give me quite a bit of warp yarn to work with for the small beaded bands I'm hoping to create with this khaitu(Andean weaving yarn). After having spun with these spindles for over a month I have gained a lot of appreciation for these spindles. They are better than I could have ever imagined... so much fun to use and I enjoy the sound of the Chaj Chaj whorls so much. I've also learned new spinning techniques that may very well help me in other areas of spinning. I always enjoy learning with new tools as you never know what new things you'll learn and be able to use that experience to help you improve in other areas. SQUEEEE I am so excited to be able to share this today. I've been busy working on a lot of projects for @daedalusspinningwheels one of which was to create the manual for the brand new Magpie V2! I currently have Becca's Magpie Odette that has been updated to V2 that I've been shooting photos of for the manual. I also have been testing out the brand new Standard Flyer as seen here on my personal Magpie. This flyer is incredible! As can be seen, it's based on the Falcon flyer and it gives a lot of the same feel and sound quality as the Falcon flyer. Once I have some free time I'll be updating my Magpie with the new V2 features. Last layer of the bobbin is Green Gallery by @threewatersfarm. Next up on the bobbin will be Petal Peddlers also by TWF. I'm expecting to fit another 2 braids on this bobbin for a total of 28 oz. The background is a large manta woven by 2 weavers. Three panels were woven by Martha Quispe Turpo and one panel by Asunta Quispe Espinoza from Santa Cruze de Sallac. Purchased through @centro_textiles_cusco. #igspinnersinspiration #wemakeyarn #spinnersoftheworld #spinningyarn #handspun #handspinnersofinstagram #igspinners #electricspinningwheel #espinner #daedalusspinningwheels #daedalusmagpie

New spindles arrived from @abbysyarns just in time! I finished the four I set out for this project and now starting to spin the second ply on the new spindles. This spinning is destined to become khaitu(Andean weaving yarn) and will be used for some thin beaded bands. Andean spinning spindles are called Pushkas and the darker whorls are a specific type called Chaj Chaj which is the sound the captive ring makes while spinning. The bag these spindles are sitting on is a spindle bag that is able to hold all four of these spindles. Both the bag and textile were spindle spun and woven on backstrap. Background textile was woven by Urbana Turpo Ccori of Sallac and the spindle bag was woven by Susana Inquillay Apaza from Sallac. Purchased through @centro_textiles_cusco and @abbysyarns. #abbysyarns #franquemontuniversity #peruvianspindle #pushka #chacchac #chajchaj #khaitu #andeanweaving #andeanbackstrap #backstrapweaving #weaversofinstagram #handweaving #weavingyarns #igweavers #handwoventextiles #weaversgonnaweave

I've been pretty busy lately working on projects with @daedalusspinningwheels so I haven't been working on my projects as much as of late. However, I have been taking a little time for myself to play with this wonderful little spinning project here and there on my Peruvian pushkas. I'm spinning khaitu which is Andean weaving yarn with the goal of weaving my own beaded bands like this one that is overlapping my spindles. I ordered some beads from @artbeads. I have a feeling I'm going to love the process of making these and using them so I can only imagine I'll be getting more beads in the future.
